Discovery Diving's 29th Annual Treasure Hunt 2008
Saturday morning, October 18, was an incredibly beautiful day in our dreams! However, in reality, it was raining and windy @ 20+ knots. Everyone headed to the rock jetty at Radio Island, a popular shore dive site. Painted and numbered oyster shells had been tossed in earlier, and the horn sounded to start the hunt.
After the dive, treasure hunters and guests gathered back at the shop to freeze their butts off, check out the treasures, and to load up plates of great food including a roasted pig, heaps of barbequed chicken, and all the fixins, cooked and created and donated by the many friends of the dive shop. The highlight of the day was the drawing for prizes which takes several hours, and we all coped as well as we could with the very harsh conditions.
We gave away over $20,000.00 worth of “treasure” from 99 companies. Including divers, guests, volunteers and shop employees, over 200 people enjoyed the festivities.
For all the weather woes, 411 treasures items were given away. All divers won some good stuff, and left smiling and planning for next year! It was an inspirational example of the kind of really tough people divers are. Goodwill and good sportsmanship were widely evident.
